Embark on an unforgettable Marrakech to Fes desert tour, a 3-day adventure through Morocco’s stunning landscapes, from the vibrant city of Marrakech to the historical gem of Fes. Traverse the majestic Atlas Mountains, explore ancient kasbahs, and experience the breathtaking beauty of the Sahara Desert with a camel trek at sunset. Our 3-day tour from Marrakech to Fes offers a perfect balance of adventure, culture, and relaxation. Whether you’re a history buff, an outdoor enthusiast, or a desert lover, this 3 day Sahara tour from Marrakech to Fes will provide memories that last a lifetime.
Your Marrakech to Fes desert tour for 3 days begins with a scenic drive through the towering Atlas Mountains, crossing the famous Tizi n’Tichka pass. Along the way, we’ll stop at traditional Berber villages, where you can immerse yourself in local culture and admire the rugged beauty of the mountain landscapes. The highlight of the day is visiting Ait Benhaddou, a stunning UNESCO-listed kasbah that has served as the backdrop for many famous films. After exploring the Kasbah, we’ll continue towards the Dades Valley, also known as the “Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs.”
On our way, we’ll pass through El Kelaa M’Gouna, a picturesque town nestled in the Valley of the Roses, renowned for its annual rose festival and the cultivation of fragrant Damascus roses. If you’re visiting during the spring harvesting season (April to May), we’ll have the opportunity to stop at an artisanal rose water distillation factory. We then continue our journey, arriving at the Dades Valley for an overnight stay in a charming hotel, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner to end the day.
After a hearty breakfast on the second day of our Marrakech to Fes desert tour, we’ll continue our journey through the scenic Dades Valley, following the winding roads towards the oasis town of Tinghir. Upon arrival, you’ll embark on a guided walk through the lush oasis of Tinghir, where palm groves stretch as far as the eye can see, and the sound of trickling irrigation channels fills the air. Accompanied by a local guide, you’ll explore the natural beauty of the oasis and learn about the town’s rich history, including its Jewish heritage, which is evident in the old Tinghir Kasbah.
After the walk, we’ll continue to the dramatic Todra Gorge, where towering cliffs frame a narrow, lush valley. Take a stroll through the gorge, admiring the striking rock formations and the clear waters of the Todra River. This is a perfect spot for photos and a chance to soak in the breathtaking scenery.
In the afternoon, we‘ll make our way to Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Here, you’ll embark on a magical camel trek across the golden Erg Chebbi dunes, where you can marvel at the sunset from the saddle of your camel. As the colours of the desert shift from gold to fiery orange, you’ll arrive at your desert camp, where you’ll spend the night under the stars. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner followed by live Berber music around the campfire, creating an unforgettable evening in the heart of the Sahara.
Rise early to catch the spectacular sunrise over the Sahara dunes—a breathtaking moment you won’t forget—before enjoying a hearty breakfast at the desert camp. After breakfast, we’ll begin our journey back towards Fes, passing through the stunning Ziz Valley. This fertile valley is known for its expansive date palm groves and dramatic cliffs, offering perfect photo opportunities as we wind our way through its scenic landscapes.
Our first stop will be in Midelt, a small town nestled between the Middle and High Atlas Mountains. Here, you’ll have the chance to enjoy lunch at your leisure in a local restaurant, where you can sample some authentic Moroccan cuisine while taking in the serene mountain surroundings.
Continuing our journey, we’ll drive through the Berber village of Azrou, famous for its ancient cedar forests and abundant wildlife. As we pass through the cedar forests, we’ll stop to meet the playful Barbary apes that inhabit the area—an enjoyable experience for both kids and adults alike.
After some time with the apes, we’ll make our way to Ifrane, often called “the Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine-style architecture and cooler climate. Here, we’ll take a short break to stretch our legs and enjoy a coffee at a local café. Ifrane’s European-like charm, clean streets, and green parks provide a refreshing contrast to the desert we left behind.
As the landscape transitions from the lush Middle Atlas to rolling hills, we’ll continue our drive to Fes, arriving by late afternoon. Fes, with its rich history and vibrant souks, is a fascinating city steeped in culture. We’ll drop you off at your accommodation, marking the end of this incredible 3 day desert tour from Marrakech to Fes.
